love nature and live how you like

adventures in non-violent subsistence

20 January 2007

On the menu this week: kale, brocolli and cauliflower. This may be regarded as a form of torture in some parts. But kale with plenty of garlic and a little lemon juice is seasonal eating chez-nous.

We grew kale for the first time on our group plot and I loved it. I only took the fresh tips for a stir fry and thought they were fab. I think their bad press is badly deserved!

Ever tried Couve Tronchuda? - it's like a cross between cabbage and kale. Seeds of Italy sell it as 'Portuguese Kale', I think.

no, never heard of it! I love the Seeds of Italy catalogue - dare hardly pick it up these days lest I go mad. Like you say seeds are only good value if you sow em!
